Julia and Alex’s Wedding at Merewood Country House Hotel

Wedding at Merewood Country House

Where better to write the blog for Julia and Alex’s wedding at Merewood Country House than sat here, back up in the Lake District in Ambleside (which is about a mile from Merewood Country House Hotel).  In fact I’ll be driving past Merewood on my way to the wedding I am shooting up here later this afternoon. Julia booked me after seeing Laura and Nathan’s photographs from their Victoria Baths wedding in 2013 as Julia used to work with Laura before Alex’s job took them off to Milan for a couple of years. Whilst living in one of the fashion capitals of the world, Julia and Alex planned their wedding for their return to the U.K. in the summer of 2015, so it should come as no surprise that this was a particularly stylish wedding.

Once again I had a little bit of help shooting this wedding as my wing-man Daniel Lloyd joined me on the trip up the M6 to the Lake District for Julia and Alex’s wedding at Merewood Country House. I’d been to Merewood for a wedding as a guest back in 2009 for one of the best weddings I’ve ever been to, so I knew it was a brilliant wedding venue. Located next to Lake Windermere, Merewood Country House has amazing views of the lake, the hotel is beautifully styled and it has a superb team working hard in the back ground to ensure that every wedding goes off perfectly. Looking at the testimonials in the hotel it’s clear to see that manager Lorna and the team are wedding legends and your wedding is in very safe hands at Merewood!

The Church of The Sacred Heart

It was also nice to work alongside hair stylist Katie Tweedale again during the bridal preparation (I met Katie on the Victoria Baths wedding). The preparation went like clockwork before Dan and I drove around the Lake to The Church of The Sacred Heart near Coniston where Dan and I were allowed free reign to shoot the wedding service as it happened (thanks to the fantastic and very relaxed Priest!) A Routemaster bus took the guests back to Merewood Country House for the wedding reception where strong winds and rain made grabbing the formal photos slightly challenging before the wedding breakfast.

With the promise of better weather later in the day I delayed the couple photos until after the speeches. It was the right call as the winds calmed down and the sun popped out as we shot the couple photos down on the banks of Lake Windermere and with Julia and Alex being a superb couple to photograph (they were soooo natural) I got some fantastic couple photos before we went back up to Merewood where I let The Twentysomethings take over and kick off a huge party that I believe went on late into the night!

I loved Julia and Alex’s wedding at Merewood Country House. Here’s their day, music by The War on Drugs, photos by me…
