Comlongon Castle Wedding Photography // Danielle and Stewart

Comlongon Castle Wedding Photography

It’s not often I get to work at somewhere that is rumoured to be haunted, so it was with a little trepidation that I travelled up to Scotland to shoot Danielle and Stewart’s Comlongon Castle wedding photography.

Comlongon Castle is a 15th century tower house a few miles from Dumfries, just over the border in Scotland. It’s a spectacular wedding venue, with part of the original Castle still standing next to the Manor House set within some beautiful grounds. The wedding service room is within the original Castle, up some tight spiral staircases and within walls that are four metres thick. The service room is covered from wall to ceiling with flags and banners and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re on the set of Game of Thrones. A huge blazing fire holds court at the top of the room alongside dramatic candelabras to create a truly unique atmosphere for a wedding. Not only does it look dramatic, the Castle has a dramatic past too, as it is allegedly haunted by the ghost of Lady Marion Carruthers who took her own life by leaping from the lookout tower on the 25th September 1570.

If you do watch Game of Thrones, then you’ll also know weddings are not normally the happy, joyous occasions you’d imagine they should be in the show. Add onto that that the service room is haunted, you can see why it was easy to get a little nervous before the wedding.  Thankfully, Danielle and Stewart’s day was the complete opposite of a Westeros wedding with a very happy ending and not one ghost in sight! From the preparation to the dancing Danielle and Stewart had nothing but huge smiles on their faces. With glorious sunshine and a stunning sunset as the backdrop to the Castle, it wasn’t hard to grab some fantastic couple photos and after the wedding breakfast we went outside to play with some off camera flash to create some cracking ‘wow’ images. The team at Comlongon Castle were brilliant all day long too and if you’re after a wedding venue totally different to anything anywhere else then you have to check out Comlongon Castle.

So here’s Danielle and Stewart’s Comlongon Castle wedding photography. Music by COASTS, photos by me…
