Same Sex Wedding
Kat and Joey’s same sex wedding at The Castlefield Rooms was an absolutely wedding brilliant day. I’ve known Kat since 2004 when I started working with her back in my old career. Over the next 10 years we worked together in a number of roles and teams at work before I became a full time wedding photographer. When Kat got in touch to see if I was free to shoot her same sex wedding to Joey at The Castlefield Rooms in Manchester, I was absolutely delighted.
With both brides getting ready at the Marriot Victoria & Albert there were two sets of bridal preparations to cover so I worked quickly jumping between both rooms to capture the fun and laughter for both brides. Once the prep was done everyone made the short journey to The Castlefield Rooms. I love weddings at the Castlefield Rooms and have photographed some brilliant weddings there like Emma and David’s wedding last year. The marriage service was wonderful with smiles and (happy) tears in equal measure and a fantastic moment at the bottom of the aisle as Kat and Joey posed for a selfie with all their wedding guests. It’s probably my favourite photo of the day.

With rare good weather in Manchester the guests enjoyed the terrace over looking Dukes 92. It was great to see a few of my past couples at the wedding including Jen and Nik whose wedding I had photographed a few weeks earlier. Kat and Joey then spent 20 minutes with me for the couple photos. Kat was a little apprehensive about the reaction towards a same sex wedding couple, however Joey and I reassured Kat that the people of Manchester would just be delighted for them both. As we walked back to the reception, a few guests at Dukes 92 started to clap for Kat and Joey and it quickly caught on with hundreds of people applauding, cheering and wishing them well as we walked through. It was a phenomenal moment, with incredible happiness and emotional and any worries Kat had about being accepted were swept away. It was probably the best moment at a wedding I’ve ever seen.
It was great to see superstar DJ Andy Murphy on duty for the evening reception and despite the crazy heat he got the dance floor packed all night long. All DJ’s are not created equal, Andy is a multiple Wedding Industry Award winner and he takes your wedding to another level. Just book him!
