Islington Metal Works Wedding
I never used to be a fan of London. Too loud, too busy, too much hassle. Back in 2012 Mrs T and I went to see Pulp at The Royal Albert Hall and we decided to make a weekend of it in London. Then I realised I was very, very wrong. London is awesome. So it became somewhere I really wanted to shoot a wedding and when my old friend Adam asked me to shoot his Islington Metal Works wedding to Emily, I was on the internet booking my ticket within seconds!
Renaissance Hotel St Pancras
When I jumped off the train and made my way to my hotel I noticed the stunning Renaissance Hotel St Pancras before I joined the dots and realised this was the venue for Emily’s bridal preparation. The hotel is spectacular from the outside and if you’ve never been in, it matches it on the inside. It was also in complete contrast to Emily and Adam’s Islington Metal Works wedding reception. Buried down a side street, just off the main junction at Angel is a fully operational metal works that also hosts weddings and has its own nightclub (obviously). It’s pretty well hidden but when you do finally find it, it’s a unique venue unlike any I’ve ever worked at before. It’s hard to explain it, so all I can do is point you towards my photos below. My trip to London was even cooler than I could have hoped for.
Islington Town Hall
The actual wedding was at Islington Town Hall, another beautiful building a short drive away from Islington Metal Works. A double decker London bus (what else?) took everyone back to Islington Metal Works for the reception where the party kicked on late into the night. As I was staying over in London and as I’ve known Adam for a long time, I made the transition from wedding photography to wedding guest, but not before I convinced Emily and Adam to come out into the junction at Angel at 11pm to grab a dynamic city shot. As two London buses passed us, I got the shot and it’s one of my favourite wedding images ever! I also know Emily and Adam have it framed on their wall at home!
A genuinely unique, cool and spectacular wedding. Here’s Emily and Adam’s Islington Metal Work wedding. Music by Fleetwood Mac, photos by me…
