Swancar Farm Wedding Photography

Emma and James’ Swancar Farm wedding photography was my first wedding of 2017. Swancar Farm is a new venue for myself, It is just outside Nottingham city centre and it’s a beautiful wedding venue. Swancar Farm is a 16th century country house that is now an exclusive use wedding venue, set in 250 acres of countryside. it’s the perfect venue for a rustic wedding.

Emotional Moments

What made Emma and James’ wedding even more special is that I know Emma as she is one of my sister in law’s best friends. There was a warm welcome when I arrived to shoot the morning preparation. Emma was joined by her two daughters Tilly and Annie who provided endless photo opportunities as Emma got ready. Once Emma was ready there was an emotional moment when her father saw her and his two granddaughters.

Andy Murphy DJ

Emma wasn’t the only familiar face at the wedding as Andy Murphy was wedding host and DJ! I love working with Andy Murphy, not only is he one of the nicest guys you could wish to meet, he’s a multi award winning DJ too and he’s great fun to be around. Andy was also doubling up his duties by delivering the light up letters from The Word Is Love too. I couldn’t possibly reveal that Andy may have set the words up to read Mr & Mrs Doom (rather than Wood)! I love working with both The Word is Love and Andy Murphy (which I had only done a few weeks before at Sarah and Steve’s Oh Me Oh My wedding). They are top wedding pro’s and they really add to your wedding day.

Wedding Service

The wedding service was wonderful and emotional. James watched as Tilly and Annie walked down the aisle before Emma arrived and it was lovely to see how happy Emma and James are. Despite the freezing January weather, Emma and James braved the biting cold for their couple photos before the speeches and wedding breakfast. With the night closing in, Emma and James ventured out into the rain and cold for their big shot, which you can see at the top of the blog! With Andy Murphy in fine form the dance-floor was rocking late into the night!

So here’s Emma and James’ Swancar Farm wedding photography, music by Tom Odell, photos by me…

Alison and Jake’s Heaton House Farm Wedding

Heaton House Farm Wedding

Alison and Jake booked me to shoot their Heaton House Farm wedding in November. This was my second wedding at Heaton House Farm after I shot Lucy and Andy’s wedding. Heaton House Farm weddings are fantastic, it’s a brilliant venue with a superb team working hard behind the scenes to make sure you have a wonderful wedding day. Both Alison and Jake were getting ready at Heaton House Farm so I was delighted to have James Andrew helping me out on second shooting duties so we could capture both sets of preparation.

Brilliant Wedding Speeches

Alison and Jake had their marriage service inside Heaton House Farm under the spotlights. Once they had said their ‘I do’s’ James and I helped create a confetti shot before the guests returned inside for a glass of champagne in the much warmer surroundings of Heaton House Farm. With it being more than a little chilly, Alison and Jake braved the weather for their couple photos outside Heaton House Farm before heading in to warm up enjoying their wedding breakfast. The speeches that followed the were absolutely brilliant. Jake nailed his groom’s speech with hilarity and heartfelt emotion in equal measure.

Evening Reception

With the night drawing in we grabbed a quick photo outside in front of Heaton House Farm’s iconic tree before the evening reception kicked into full party mode and Alsion and Jake enjoyed their Heaton House Farm wedding late into the evening. A big thank you to James Andrew for helping out on the day, so here’s Alison and Jake’s Heaton House Farm wedding, music by Oh Land, photos by me and James…

Oh Me Oh My Wedding Photography // Sarah and Steve

Titanic Hotel Liverpool

Sarah and Steve booked me to shoot their Oh Me Oh My wedding photography over in one of the coolest cities in the world, Liverpool. I started off at a super cool venue, The Titanic Hotel in Liverpool. It’s a beautiful hotel and perfect for wedding preparation photography with exposed brickwork and high ceilings. Sarah and her team of bridesmaids got ready with plenty of champagne flowing before the emotional moment when Sarah’s dad saw her for the first time in her wedding dress (supplied by Sarah’s cousin Helen at 7th Heaven Bridal!) Once we’d got the shot I made my way across the city to St Georges Hall.

St Georges Hall Wedding

St Georges Hall, in the centre of Liverpool, is an iconic building in the city. Inside the main hall, Steve was waiting nervously at the top of the aisle. The registrars in Liverpool were wonderful, relaxed and as is standard in Liverpool, very witty! Sarah and Steve’s St Georges Hall wedding was lovely and once the marraige service was complete the guests enjoyed their reception drinks. Sarah and Steve then joined me outside for their couple photos in and around St Georges Hall. With the winter light fading quickly we got the shots before they exited St Georges Hall in a confetti explosion!

Oh Me Oh My Wedding Photography

The main wedding reception was held at Oh Me Oh My. Oh Me Oh My has a fantastic setting, across the road from the world famous Liver Building. Once the wedding breakfast and speeches were complete Sarah and Steve headed up to the roof terrace. It wasn’t as cold as we’d expected so we grabbed a few extra couple shots to add to their  Oh Me Oh My wedding photography.  with the dance floor lit up by the awesome team from The Word is Love and DJ Andy Murphy in charge of the party, there was no doubting that Sarah and Steve’s  Oh Me Oh My wedding party was going to be amazing.

So here’s Sarah and Steve’s Oh Me Oh My wedding photography. Music by Mrs Me 2.0, photos by me…

Broadoaks Country House Wedding Photographer // Laura and Rich

Broadoaks Country House Wedding Photographer

I knew both Laura and Rich long before I became a wedding photographer so I it was with great honour that they asked me to be their Broadoaks Country House wedding photographer. This was my second visit to Broadoaks Country House after I shot Rachel and Scott’s wedding there in September 2015. Broadoaks Country House is a beautiful venue close to Lake Windermere in the Lake District. I really enjoy shooting weddings there, the team are fantastic to work with and the hotel is set in its own beautiful grounds. I arrived nice and early to meet up with Laura for her bridal preparation. I was told Laura’s father was a tough Yorkshire man who keeps his emotions in check, but the sight of his daughter in her wedding dress was a little too much and I think I may well have spotted a tear or two!

Lake Windermere

Laura and Rich were married at Broadoaks in an emotional wedding service (mainly from Rich I must add). It was a wonderful marriage service and it was obvious to see how much Laura and Rich are in love. Once their guests had showered them in confetti we made the the short journey down to Lake Windermere for their couple photos on a jetty out on the lake. With dramatic skies (and a little wind) Laura and Rich braved the weather to get some beautiful couple photos as Laura showed off her stunning Charlotte Balbier wedding dress.

We returned to Broadoaks Country House for the wedding breakfast and speeches before Laura and Rich braved the fine rain for their ‘wow’ photo (which you can see above). Sparklers then guided the way back inside Broadoaks Country House for their first dance. Laura is something of an Instagram sensation, at the time of writing she has 45000 followers on Instragram as he is a Slimming World sensation. Laura’s story is inspirational as she lost over 5 stone for her wedding. With such a huge audience I made sure that Laura had a series of photos to post the day after the wedding and it’s safe to say the images went down well. I’ve never seen so many likes on one of my images!

So here’s my day as Laura and Rich’s Broadoaks Country House wedding photographer. Music by COLLEAGUES, photos by me…

The Citadel Wedding Photography // Nicola and Tom

romantic photo of bride and groom at the citadel

Proposal In Liverpool

Where do I start with Tom and Nicola’s Citadel wedding photography? I guess logically at the beginning. Back in 2014 Tom got in touch to ask if I was available to shoot his proposal to Nicola in Liverpool. It was an amazing day as I sneakily captured the magic moment Tom asked Nicola to be his wife in the city where they met…

the proposal

The Citadel Wedding Photography

Fast forward over two years and Nicola and Tom had booked me to shoot their wedding photography at The Citadel Weston. I knew this was going to be a spectacular wedding with a host of top class wedding suppliers involved and I met up with another Tom, Tom from Silk Wedding Films, at the bridal preparations in the morning. From there we went to Nicola’s parents house where Nicola finished getting ready. With the grand reveal to her parents done, Tom and I made our way to Wrekin College Chapel where I met up with James Andrew who had been on second shooting duties with Tom (the groom) in the morning. Nicola had attended Wrekin College so it was a very personal  choice for their wedding service. Once Nicola and Tom were the married as the new Mr and Mrs Baker, Tom’s brother and best man Matt was busy handing out the booze outside the church whilst the guests showered Tom and Nicola in confetti.

Baker Street

Everyone made the short journey over the The Citadel for the marquee reception. Sadly, the glorious summer weather I had enjoyed for Cat and Andy’s wedding just a few days before had long gone and it rained a lot on Nicola and Tom’s wedding day. We managed to sneak a few minutes of sun for the formals and a super quick session of couple photos before the rain returned. However, the rain could not dampen the party spirit inside the marquee with the guests having a great time. As Nicola and Tom were introduced into the room, Sam Healey (who I worked with at Hayley and Tim’s wedding) appeared on saxophone performing Baker Street which was superb!

Hilarious Best Man Speech

The wedding speeches at Tom and Nicola’s Citadel wedding were superb. Starting the preceding were Nicola’s father, followed by Tom who did a funny and emotional speech with a wonderful tribute to his father who had sadly passed away just a year before the wedding. From what I heard from Tom, Matt and the Tom’s mum, Tom’s father was clearly a legend and a fantastic man.  Once Tom had handed over to brother and best man Matt, Tom had no idea what was about to happen. Appearing in police costumes, two of Tom’s ushers ‘arrested’ Tom and placed him in the dock where he was tried for a number of ‘crimes’ including being under the thumb and crimes against fashion by Matt.

I’ve seen a lot of best man speeches but Matt’s was absolutely the best speech I have witnessed. It was brilliant, personal and hilarious best man speech and had every guest on their feet cheering and applauding as Tom was absolutely torn apart. Matt totally nailed the speech and I can’t wait to see the wedding film Silk Wedding Film to enjoy the speech again!

Andy Murphy DJ and The Rush Band

There was no let up for the evening reception with the legendary award winning DJ Andy Murphy on duty, followed by the equally legendary The Rush featuring John King. As Gavin was one of Tom’s Usher’s he wasn’t meant to be performing but ever the true showman, Gav got up for a handful of songs and absolutely nailed it alongside The Rush. The dance floor was bouncing in front of the light up letters from The Word Is Love. This was a truly brilliant day from start to finish and ended on the perfect note as I grabbed some fish and chips from The Hip Hop Chip Shop before I made my way back home.  I loved every minute of shooting Nicola and Tom’s Citadel wedding photography. Huge thanks to James Andrew for second shooting and to Tom from Silk Wedding Films for the brilliant banter all day long!

30 James Street Wedding Photography // Lauren and John

30 James Street wedding photography

Wedding Photography at 30 James Street

Lauren and John booked me to shoot their 30 James Street wedding photography at one of the most iconic buildings in Liverpool city centre. For those not in the know, 30 James Street was formerly known as Albion House and was where the offices of White Star Line, the owners of The Titanic, were based. It was where people  bought their tickets for the doomed liner and it’s a very famous landmark in Liverpool. In 2014 the building was re-opened as 30 James Street, an upmarket boutique hotel featuring reclaimed parts from some of White Star Line’s decommissioned ships (and no, the Titanic is not one of them!)

Wedding Photography at 30 James Street is brilliant.  It’s a beautiful hotel, retaining all the style of the original building coupled with modern five star luxury. It’s a fantastic wedding venue set across from Pier Head and the iconic Liver Building. I met up with John as he was getting ready alongside his best men and ushers inside 30 James Street. Lauren arrived shortly afterwards and we made our way to the main hotel suite at 30 James Street for Lauren’s bridal preparation.. Lauren finished getting ready in the opulent surroundings with her bridesmaids and daughter Matilda. Once set, we all made our way downstairs to the White Star Grand Hall (the room that used to sell first class tickets for White Star Line’s ships) where John was nervously waiting.

Bubble Confetti

John couldn’t quite hold the emotion in his daughter, Matilda, walked up the aisle (and as a new dad I can completely understand why he wiped a tear or two away). The emotion didn’t stop as Lauren made her entrance into the stunning White Star Grand Hall. It was an absolute pleasure to photograph Lauren and John’s 30 James Street wedding photography as they are one of the happiest couples I have ever worked for. They absolutely adore each other and throughout the marriage service they spent the entire time laughing, holding hands and enjoying every minute of their wedding. Once they had shared their first kiss they walked back down the aisle covered in bubble confetti before we took the lift to the top floor bar for their wedding reception.

Lightly Directed Couple Photos

As the guests hugged Lauren and John I captured the laughter and fun and yes, that is Joe Hart, the Manchester City and England goalkeeper. Lauren and John’s wedding speeches were some of the best speeches of 2016 and the speakers all had the guests in fits of laughter, none more so than John’s two best men, who absolutely slaughtered John (who does sound like a bit of a legend if you’re on a night out). After the brilliant speeches Lauren and John headed out onto Pier Head for some lightly directed couple photos before we made our way into the back streets behind 30 James Street. With beautiful golden sunlight illuminating the buildings, Liverpool looked amazing. It was the perfect backdrop for Lauren and John’s 30 James Street wedding photography.

So here’s Lauren and John’s 30 James Street wedding photography. Music by The Police, photos by me…

Heather and Gerred’s Humanist Tipi Garden Wedding

humaist tip garden wedding bride and groom kissing under arch

Humanist Tipi Garden Wedding

Where do I start with Heather and Gerred’s Humanist tipi garden wedding service? Heather and Gerred decided to get married in the grounds of Heather’s family home.. The service was to be held in a clearing in the woods with the reception on the lawn outside in a giant tipi. To get married at home, Heather and Gerred opted for a Humanist wedding service with the brilliant Hannah Wroe Gill. I have worked with Hannah back in 2014 at Natalee and Jamal’s wedding so I knew that a Humanist wedding service is a beautiful, personal marriage service.

Hannah Wroe Gill

Hannah is one of the UK’s only full time Humanist Celebrants and she is absolutely brilliant. Heather and Gerred were to be married in a clearing within the woods in the grounds. With a live band performing alongside all the guests gathered in the clearing it was a spectacular, almost fairy tale wedding service. During Hannah’s beautiful and heartfelt Humanist wedding service there was not a dry eye in the clearing (including my own). The service was rounded off by all the guests singing ‘It Must Be Love’ before Heather and Gerrad walked back through the woods to the reception Tipi.

Hannah Riddell

Outside the Tipi, Hannah Riddell was creating a tapestry of the day, live. As she heard and saw things she stitches them into the tapestry with her sewing machine powered by wedding guests cycling a bike that’s connected to the machine. Heather and Gerred saw her at Glastonbury and I have never seen anything like it. Through the day I kept having a quick look at Hannah’s work and it was sensational. You really need to see Hannah in action and you can see more of her work over on her website at www.institchyou.co.uk

Relaxed Couple Photos

Heather and Gerred then joined me for a 20 minute walk around the grounds for some natural, relaxed couple photos. Once we’d finished we returned to the Tipi where rotisserie chicken and an ice cream van were on offer as guests cycled for Hannah’s tapestry whilst playing croquet in the low evening sun. Heather and Gerred’s humanist wedding day was absolutely amazing and I loved every minute of the day. They are one of the happiest couples I have ever worked with and Heather’s parents could not have been more welcoming to myself and the guests throughout the whole day.

So I make no apologies for the slightly larger number of photos from Heather and Gerreds Humanist tipi garden wedding day. Music by Waxahatchee, photos by me…

Chester Grosvenor Wedding Photography // Lesley and Tony

Wedding Photography at The Chester Grosvenor

Tony and Lesley had their wedding photography at The Chester Grosvenor at one of the cities leading wedding venues. Boasting a Michelin starred restaurant and a superb city centre location, The Chester Grosvenor is a quality venue if you’re after a fine dining wedding surrounded by style and elegance. All of that pretty much sums up Lesley and Tony’s Chester Grosvenor wedding photography and not only was the venue stunning, we had some sun too! Lesley was getting ready at The Chester Grosvenor and I started the day with the bridal preparation. I also managed to pop in on Tony who was also getting ready in the hotel. Once Lesley had her wedding dress on it was time for the marriage service.

The service room had wonderful diffused light, perfect for wedding photography. I was shooting the service alongside Bruce Marshall of LoveTwoFilm and we were treated to a wonderful service full of laughter and huge smiles. After the I do’s were exchanged and Lesley and Tony shared their first kiss as a married couple we headed out into Chester city centre for some natural wedding photos.

Michelin Starred Restaurant

Lesley and Tony rejoined their wedding guests inside the Chester Grosvenor for the wedding reception where the champagne was flowing. Lesley and Tony were very excited about their wedding breakfast as the hotel has a Michelin starred restaurant thanks to head chef Simon Radley. The Chester Grosvenor has had the Michelin star since 1990 and it was a major reason why Lesley and Tony chose the Chester Grosvenor for their wedding and reception. The food looked amazing and I was assured it tasted even better than it looked by all the wedding guests.

Tony kicked off the wedding speeches and surprised Lesley not once, but twice, with a video message from her brother in America and a brand new private number plate to show off Lesley’s new surname. With a beautiful sunset over the city centre, Lesley and Tony joined me for a few extra shots high up with views of Chester and beyond. I loved my first ever day shooting  Chester Grosvenor wedding photography at a venue filled with class and style.

Gosfield Hall Wedding Photography // Sarah and Tom

bride and groom at a wedding at gosfield hall

Wedding Reception at Gosfield Hall

I first met Sarah and Tom last year at Clair and Kris’ wedding at Rookery Hall where Tom was an usher so it was great to be asked to shoot their Gosfield Hall wedding photography this year. Being completely honest, I had never heard of Gosfield Hall and a quick Google explained why as it is in Essex. As Sarah grew up nearby she wanted to get married back ‘home’ which meant I had a fair old journey down the A1 on Good Friday to stay in the glamorous surroundings of the Great Dunmow Travelodge (I only expect the best) before heading up to the very picturesque village of Finchingfield for the morning preparation.

Sarah spent all morning laughing with her make up team and bridesmaids, which made my job of capturing natural, fun photographs pretty easy. I couldn’t have asked for a more laid back, fun group of girls and within a few minutes it was like I’d known everyone for years, even though I was a northerner! Once Sraha’s dad saw Sarah in her dress for the first time I made the short two minute walk from Sarah’s parents house to the Church where Tom was looking a little nervous at the top of the aisle. Nerves were soon put to one side as Sarah was proudly walked up the aisle by her father and huge smiles covered Sarah and Tom’s faces all throughout their marriage service. After the service Sarah and Tom wandered into Finchingfield village for a couple of photos at the duck pond before we headed off for the wedding reception at Gosfield Hall.

Beautiful Wedding Venue

Gosfield Hall is a beautiful wedding venue set in the Essex countryside. I was met by Jan who was running the day and I have to say I was looked after wonderfully by all the staff at Gosfield Hall. Although the weather was typical of a bank holiday weekend in the UK (wind and rain, obviously), we managed to brace the weather and got outside for some Gosfield Hall wedding photography. The guests, somewhat more sensibly, opted to stay indoors near the bar where I then captured the day naturally in the background. With the speeches following the meal I didn’t need my sandwiches, as Jan had kindly arranged for me to have a full three course dinner which was absolutely superb. The food is clearly another reason to get married at Gosfield Hall.

The speeches were brilliant and every one had the room in fits of laughter. Before I knew it, it was time for the first dance and my first day as a Gosfield Hall wedding photographer had come to an end. Having been away from Mrs T and Ana for a night I decided to head back up north and once again have to thank Jan for helping ensure the day ran to time. Gosfield Hall is a brilliant venue and I can highly recommend it for your wedding, amazing food, beautiful scenery and a stunning building all add up to a top class venue and one I would have no problem braving the A1 again to visit!

So here’s Sarah and Tom’s Gosfield Hall wedding photography. Music by BØRNS (and it’s a GREAT tune), photos by me…

the florrie wedding photography

Wedding at The Florence Institute Liverpool

Normally Janary is a month where I get to put my cameras away, but on January 2nd, only a couple of weeks after my final wedding of 2015 (Kate and Chris’ wedding at Abbeywood Estate), I was back shooting Laura and Luke’s The Florrie wedding photography over in Liverpool. The Florrie, or to give it its proper name, The Florence Institute, is a Grade II listed building in Toxteth, Liverpool. Built in 1889 it opened as a ‘lads club’ a year later. Throughout the next 100 years The Florrie was where the locals could get involved in sport, but in the 1980’s the Florrie’s funding dried up and the building eventually fell into disrepair.

The Liverpool Echo started a campaign to regenerate some of the cities landmark buildings including the Florrie and thanks to a chance visti by Price Charles and Lottery Funding, the building has been restored and it was re-opened by Prince Charles in January 2013. The Florrie is now a multi purpose venue, with activities such as Yoga, classic film showings, comedy night, live music and weddings! Laura and Luke met in Liverpool when they were at Uni there, so teh Florrie was a perfect choice for their relaxed, informal and fun wedding in a unique venue.

Laid Blak

Laura and Luke both got ready at The Florrie so I jumped between both rooms to grab photos of all the preparation. I got to work alongside Neil from Authentic Wedding Films for the first time and it was an absolute pleasure to work with a top wedding pro and ace filmmaker. I’ve just seen Laura and Luke’s wedding film and it is absolutely brilliant! I can highly recommend Neil and I’ve popped the film below! The marriage service was very emotional with Luke having to wipe more than one tear as Laura walked up the aisle, escorted by both her mum and dad. With typical January weather we shot The Florrie wedding photography quickly outside before returning inside for the wedding breakfast. As a surprise Luke and Laura even popped aprons on and served every guest their pie and peas!

After the speeches the evening reception kicked off with a special appearance by Laid Blak. Laura and Luke are huge fans of the band and after seeing them at Glastonbury they contacted them to see if they would perform at their wedding and they must have been delighted when Laid Blak said ‘yes’. Laid Blak were absolutely awesome and created a brilliant atmosphere as they performed late into the night. I loved my first time shooting The Florrie wedding photography in Liverpool and if you’re looking for a completely unique venue then head over to The Florrie!

Here’s Laura and Luke’s The Florrie wedding photography. Photos by me, music by Anna of The North…
