Merewood Country House Wedding Photography // Becky and Colin

Merewood Country House Wedding

August 2017 was the busiest month of weddings I have ever had with twelve weddings, starting with Becky and Colin’s Merewood Country House Wedding. I love shooting at Merewood Country House Hotel, set back from Lake Windermere, it is a stunning location in the Lake District and one of the friendliest venues I have the pleasure of working at. The staff are absolutely terrific and I always receive a warm welcome at Merewood. Two years had passed since I shot Julia and Alex’s wedding at Merewood Country House Hotel, so it was nice to return to one of my favourite venues. Becky and Colin had their wedding on Tuesday the 1st of August as it both of their parents wedding anniversaries on the same date, so the 1st of August is a very special date for all of the family. Just to add, Becky is a photography teacher, so she really knows her stuff when it comes to all things camera related. No pressure then!

Views of Lake Windermere

I arrived in good time for the morning preparations and it was a very relaxed affair with Becky and her bridesmaids getting ready in the bridal suite (which has a stunning view of Lake Windermere). Colin and the boys were also in Merewood so I switched between the ladies and gents throughout the preparation. Colin looked a little nervous as her waited for Becky to arrive at the top of the aisle, but it was all smiles as Becky and Colin exchanged their vows, bathed in the beautiful light of the ceremony room at Merewood Country House Hotel. Confetti and hugs greeted Becky and Colin as everyone enjoyed canapes and champagne in the gardens of Merewood during the afternoon reception.

Heartfelt Speeches

Becky and Colin headed down to Merewood’s sister venue, Cragwood Country House Hotel (where I am shooting a wedding later this year) for a short session of couple photos. We made the most of the spectacular views over Lake Windermere. We are so lucky to have such stunning scenery in the Lake District, shooting wedding photography there is an absolute pleasure. The speeches followed the wedding breakfast and Becky’s father, Colin and his brother and best man all had the room in the palm’s of their hands with brilliant, funny and heartfelt speeches. With a short gap between the speeches and first dance, We nipped down to the jetty at Low Wood Bay for a few more photos before the cake cut and first dance kicked off the evening reception, which was expertly DJ’d by Gary Mills.

Luckily for me Becky’s sister and bridesmaid, Natalie has booked me to shoot her wedding to Antonee in April, so I’ll get to see Becky and Colin again soon! It was an absolute pleasure to be shoot their Merewood Country House wedding photography and a huge thank you to all the staff at Merewood Country House Hotel for their warm welcome, cups of tea and fabulous three course meal! It really is a wonderful wedding venue and one of my very favourite places to work at. So here’s Becky and Colin’s Merewood Country House Hotel wedding photography. Wedding at The Belle Epoque

Nearly three years passed between the first time I shot a wedding at The Belle Epoque and the next wedding I photographed. In March 2016 I shot Steph and Gary’s intimate wedding then, like buses, two more came along in a week. I shot Hayley and Tim’s Belle Epoque wedding photography in June a week before my third 2016 Belle Epoque wedding a week later. However, I was very much looking forward to returning to one of the most unique wedding venues in Cheshire. The Belle Epoque is a terrific venue for a wedding, intimate and dark, it has its own unique look and feel. It’s also a superb restaurant and haunt of many a celebrity, so it’s easy to see why Hayley and Tim booked their wedding at the Belle Epoque.

Hayley got ready at her house before making her way to The Belle Epoque where Tim was patiently waiting at the top of the aisle. As you’ll see from the photos below, Belle Epoque wedding photography is pretty challenging. The Nikon’s coped admirably though and as soon as Hayley and Tim had said their ‘I do’s’ it was out into the gardens for the wedding reception.

Tom Seals

The guests were entertained by the superb Tom Seals whilst enjoying champagne in the Belle Epoque grounds. Tom Seals is one of the leading jazz pianists in the country and he is astonishingly talented. Performing alongside Tom was Sam Healey on Sax. Sam also perform with leading Manchester wedding band The Rush (who I am working with quite a few times this year) and the combination of the Tom and Sam was amazing. If you’re looking for musicians for your wedding day they check out Tom Seals. Easily one of the most talented musicians I have ever seen perform.

After the reception in the gardens and the wedding breakfast the guests enjoyed the speeches before Hayley and Tim made the most of the low sun over Knutsford as we made our way out for some natural couple photos. Before I knew it, it was time for the first dance at Hayley and Tim’s Belle Epoque wedding. However, it wouldn’t be long before I would be back for some more Belle Epoque wedding photography as I returned a week later to shoot Julia and Jo’s wedding (which is coming to the blog soon!)

Bells of Peover Wedding Photographer // Lucie and Chris

Bells of Peover Wedding Photographer

I like Cheshire weddings (who doesn’t?) so it worked out nicely for me to be back there only a couple of weeks after my last visit to Peover (for Kate and Roger’s Colshaw Hall Wedding) as Lucie and Chris had booked me to be their Bells of Peover wedding photographer. The day started at Lucie’s dad’s house in Stockport with a warm welcome and a brew (always a winner) and as a bonus, there was gorgeous summer sun too. It was only a short walk (or drive if you’re lazy like me) to Our Lady and St.Christophers Church for the wedding service where I met up with Chris, who was looking ever so slightly nervous at the top of the aisle. Lucie was bang on time and Chris soon got to see Lucie as she was led up the aisle by her very proud dad. After an emotional service there were plenty of smiles (and waves) as Lucie and Chris wallked through the confetti as they left church.

After the wedding Lucie was taken to The Bells of Peover in Chris’ other love, his blue Suburu Impreza. It’s safe to say Lucie is not sad to have seen the back of the car (Chris has sold it on to a friend now) but it made a re-appearance for the wedding with Chris gleefully behind the wheel. I arrived just before Lucie and Chris at The Bells of Peover (yep, I beat his Suburu in my family estate car) and as the guests arrived we made the most of the time and grabbed the couple photos. As soon as we had done 20 minutes almost all the guests had arrived and the reception kicked off in the gardens of The Bells of Peover in front of the tipi where the rest of the reception would be held.

Despite the attention of one or two summer wasps, the guests had a fantastic time on a warm summers afternoon before heading into the tipi for the brilliant speeches and meal. With a night of live funk and soul music courtesy of Natural Soul, the party kicked off in the tipi with some of my favourite first dance shots of this year.

So here’s what I got up to as Lucie and Chris’ Bells of Peover wedding photographer. Music by Alex Winston, photos by me…

Plough Inn Hathersage Wedding Photography // Laura + Chris

Marquee Wedding

There’s something special about a wedding in a marquee. I can’t put my finger on it, but whenever I photograph a wedding in a marquee it’s always a brilliant day. Laura and Chris booked me to shoot their Plough Inn Hathersage wedding photography in The Peak District where Laura was born and raised, which meant that we weren’t struggling for some spectacular scenery. I made my way down the Snake Pass to Laura’s parents near Sheffield for the bridal preparation where I met up with a very excited bunch of ladies who were having their make up expertly applied by Rosie Powers. As the Moet flowed (quite early on too) it was obvious this was going to be a lively wedding!

Plough Inn Hathersage Wedding Photography

Once the ladies were suitably beautified and ready I went over to meet Chris at St James’ Church in Sheffield, who was much calmer than most of my grooms awaiting the arrival of his wife to be. Laura soon arrived in her vintage camper van and it wasn’t long before Laura and Chris were being showered in confetti before we set off for their reception at The Plough Inn in Hathersage. Laura and Chris wanted the Peak District to feature in their couple photographs, so we stopped on the way to Hathersage and grabbed some quick couple photos, including the one at the top of the page, which I absolutely love with Laura and Chris absolutely nailing wedding cool!

Tom Rocks and The Replicants

We arrived at The Plough Inn and grabbed a few photos with the camper vans before Laura and Chris enjoyed the afternoon with their guests whilst they were entertained by Lauren Moreau playing the harp. The marquee looked amazing, styled by Laura it looked beautiful and I loved the vintage ladder table plan. The speeches were hilarious and emotional in equal measure before my favourite wedding band, Tom Rocks and The Replicants, arrived. I knew it was going to go off when I over heard the reaction of the guests to the sound check (everyone was super impressed) and I wasn’t wrong. In fact, this was the craziest dance floor I’ve been on for a long time as even I got lifted up onto the ushers shoulders after the first dance! I wasn’t the only one as Tom from the band was hoisted up onto the groomsmen during Mr Brightside as the wedding party went off big time. Honestly, I say this a lot, you’ve got to book Tom Rocks and The Replicants for your wedding, they absolutely kill it every time and make your evening reception the best party you can possibly imagine!

Elixir Ibiza Wedding Photography // Vicky and Matt

Elixir Ibiza Wedding Photography.

Elixir Ibiza Wedding Photography

Sometimes I can’t believe how lucky I am in my job. Being booked to shoot Vicky and Matt’s Elixir Ibiza wedding photography was definitely one of those moments. I’d met Vicky and Matt when I shot Debbie and Karl’s wedding at The Saddleworth Hotel in 2013. At the time Vicky was thinking of heading off abroad for a destination wedding and she asked if I traveled (which I emphatically said yes to!) A few months later Vicky and Matt had found their dream venue and had set their hearts on Ibiza and Elixir Shore Club. So I booked a Jet2 flight and in the middle of August flew out to the White aisle for my first ever Elixir Ibiza wedding photography job!

Wedding in Ibiza

Vicky was getting ready in Cala Llonga so I met her there for the bridal prep before sharing her taxi over to Cala Codolar to Elixir Shore Club. What a venue. A shabby chic paradise, set high on the cliffs over a small beach, Elixir is something else. Vicky was walked down the aisle by her brother before Matt and Vicky shared their wedding blessing in front of the stunning views of the sea. With glorious sun shining down it was one of the those moments where I had to remember I was actually working. A totally amazing service finished and the open bar started (so I knew it was going to be an amazing wedding). Although it did get a little hot (even the staff said it was a little warmer than usual, peaking at just over 40 degrees), everyone soaked up the sun and prosecco before I took the wedding party down to the beach for the group shots. Vicky and Matt didn’t want anything boring or stuffy, so we set the lads up to look cool and the girls to have fun. I LOVE the group shots, easily some of my favourite I’ve taken.

Ibiza Sunset

I was then invited to eat with the wedding party and I can hand on heart say this was the best wedding food I’ve ever eaten. A barbecue to beat all barbecue’s. It’s worth having your wedding at Elixir Shore Club for the food alone it’s that good. Then, as the sun started to set I grabbed Vicky and Matt and we went back down to the beach to get the classic Ibiza sunset in the couple shots. It was a spectacular experience and I think the shots do the sunset justice, before we headed back to the speeches and a huge party (which I get thoroughly involved with when the Nikon’s were packed away!)

Without doubt, the coolest wedding of the year and one of the highlights of my wedding photography career. Ibiza is a brilliant venue for your wedding blessing and Elixir is one of the best venues I’ve ever worked at. A stunning venue with amazing views and it’s run brilliantly by the team there. I cannot recommend it highly enough and if you are planning on heading out there, I’m more than up for a some more Elixir Ibiza wedding photography.
